Supporting Green Cross International

Launched in 1993 by President Mikhail Gorbachev, GREEN CROSS INTERNATIONAL is an environmental non-governmental organization (NGO) that implements initiatives for a sustainable future for humanity and the environment. The Green Cross network, active in 31 countries, works to promote actions that can ensure a just, sustainable and secure future for all.

yoox.com has chosen to support Green Cross through YOOXYGEN by featuring highlights of the organization's projects and programs confronting the challenge of climate change. YOOXYGEN's debut included an online preview of a Green Cross International video clip with the organization's founder, President Mikhail Gorbachev. Through a series of striking images the video vividly illustrates how climate change is affecting the planet.

"I think the environment should be put in the category of our national security. Defense of our resources is just as important as defense abroad. Otherwise what is there to defend?"

"The new threats to human security arise not from conflict among nations but conflict with nature, revealing the crucial nexus between poverty, security and the environment. Today’s challenges present us with an invitation for radical transformation that we cannot refuse."

"The human brain now holds the key to our future. We have to recall the image of the planet from outer space: a single entity in which air, water, and continents are interconnected. That is our home."
