FROM THE FURNACE TO THE WORLD WIDE WEB
3 glass brides by VENINI V.I.P produced in limited edition
exclusively for yoox.com
Three themed vase sculptures shaped in the form of a wedding dress were created by the young Serbian designer, Sanja Pupovac, who was chosen by Alberto Biagetti for the creation of these artistic collectible glasses.
Venini, a company that is symbolic of the "Made in Italy," and whom is renowned across the world for its ingenuity with glass, has exclusively designed and produced a collection for yoox.com. For the first time ever, an artistic tradition of international merit will be available on the prestigious website and will be accessible to the entire world.
The philosophy of the collection regards time, memory and the body. The designer thought of three objects, which like flowing dresses, place themselves inside a theatrical and fairytale context, a type of metaphor for a unique and one-off wedding dress. Also, objects can celebrate unforgettable moments and become interpretations of everyday life, giving a poetic meaning that blends perfection, courage, amusement and madness. It is glass with its own magic and fragility, which appears like a protagonist in a dream that never shatters.
The limited edition signed and numbered vase sculptures are a true art collector's item.
(Didactic titles of the vase sculptures)
"The bride of the diver" recounts a story about a woman who marries perfection, courageousness and discipline"
"The bride of the oilman" recounts a story of a woman who marries ambition and prosperity
"The bride of the juggler" recounts a story of a woman who marries risk, amusement and madness"
A never-before-seen mix of vintage and avant-garde bijoux
Starting from mid November, past and present will merge on yoox.com in a special area dedicated to contemporary and vintage jewelry, a gallery of distinctive propositions ideal for Christmas shopping.
Through the refined creations of some of the most famous names of costume jewellery and the cutting-edge experimentations of the new generation of designers, yoox.com presents an exclusive selection of jewellery organized according to six major themes and illustrating the most important trends of the season: Black jewellery, Cuffs and Bangles, Chains, Pearls, Party Jewels, and Graphics. These reoccurring themes in the history of costume jewellery recur in today's contemporary bijoux. Numerous cutting-edge designers have been selected by yoox.com as a result of their capacity to interpret some of the key elements of period jewellery and to reintegrate them into their innovative and avant-garde creations.
Curated by yoox.com under the direction of creative consultant Holly Brubach, vintage expert and former fashion critic, the extensive selection of jewellery sourced from Europe and the United States presents precious pieces, many of them one-of-a-kind, that complement jeans and a T shirt as well a ball gown.
The vintage area ranges from the Twenties to the Eighties, retracing the history of costume jewelry through the creative designs of masters like Coppola & Toppo, Trifari, Monet, Miriam Haskell, Chanel, Kenneth Jay Lane, Correani and many more.
Some pieces originate from important collections like that of Deanna Farneti Cera, one of the leading private collectors of costume jewellery in the world, who will discuss its unique appeal and many of her own personal favorite brands in an exclusive video interview on yoox.com. Deanna Farneti Cera is a noted expert and the author of many books on the subject (available for sale on yoox.com in conjunction with the holiday jewellery event), including "Jewels of Fantasy: Costume Jewellery of the 20th Century" and "the Jewellery of Miriam Haskell."
As for contemporary designers, there is a very broad selection of ideas proposed from the studios of craftsmen, bringing together tradition, technical innovation and design. Truly talented authors of jewellery characterize themselves by their anti-conventional approach, , among them: Florian, Iosselliani, Ligia Dias, Delphine-Charlotte Parmentier, Johanne Mills, Natalia Brilli, Simone Vera Bath, R Jewellery and Stephen Scott. For the past few years, yoox.com has dedicated a window in its virtual boutique to emerging contemporary jewellery designers, many of whom have had only a few selected shops and concept stores available to them as outlets. Through yoox.com, they can now reach a vast international audience.
THE SIX THEMES OF PAST AND PRESENT, FROM VINTAGE TO CONTEMPORY:
BLACK JEWELLERY
Brooches from the 50s, inspired by Victorian "Mourning Jewellery," reprised the elegance of black, a recurring category throughout the history of jewellery. Correani's stark use of black in a necklace from the 70s is echoed today by designers like Ligia Dias and Stephen Scott, who utilize black as a base, layering earth colours on top, to experiment with alternative materials and workmanship.
PEARLS
Famous depictions of Coco Chanel in the 20s wearing artificial pearls still fascinate contemporary artists. From Florian's gothic geometry to Ligia Dias's penchant for Rock, pearls have maintained the elegant classicism seen in a distinctive four-strand necklace by Miriam Haskell.
CHAINS
Chains are among the most prosaic and fundamental parts of jewellery, occasionally reinterpreted in innovative forms and constructed from unprecedented materials, such as Coppola's and Toppo's faux-tortoise earrings from the 60s. Today, reproduced in numerous variations, they have become the leitmotiv of Iosselliani, while R Jewellery mixes them with crystals so they almost appear like adorned gems.
CUFFS AND BANGLES
The big bracelet, one of this season's strongest statements, has an ancient pedigree. Among the most striking examples featured this holiday season on yoox.com are domed cuffs of fumè crystals created for the opera stage, as well as signature Chanel and Kenneth Jay Lane versions. But the bracelet's future is destined for a new evolution, beginning to emerge in the work of a contemporary designer like Delphine Charlotte Parmentier.
GRAPHICS
During the 60s, accessories with bold graphic motifs made its debut in fashion, incorporating innovative materials like enamel and resin to create geometric jewels in a style carried forward today in the designs of Delphine Charlotte Parmentier and Johanne Mills.
PARTY BIJOUX
A selection that exemplifies the holiday spirit of sparkle and ornamentation includes collectible brooches from the 50's, important designs by Yves Saint Laurent, Kenneth Jay Lane and Schiaparelli, and pieces created specifically for the stage and the catwalk. Unique and dazzling works from the past are mixed with contemporary items by Iosselliani and Johanne Mills in a selection worthy of "A Thousand and One Nights."
An international grande dame's memories & style
For the first time ever on the web
Her online debut is exclusively on yoox.com
Rosamond Bernier, the world's most glamorous lecturer on the fine arts and high culture, made her farewell appearance at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on March 13, 2008—to the great regret of her many avid fans and admirers. In 1971, embarking on a new chapter in a career that has now spanned some 70 years, she gave her first of more than 200 lectures at the museum. She has also spoken all over the United States and in France, India and Israel. Many of her talks were about artists who were her friends: Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Georges Braque, Fernand Léger, Joan Miró, Max Ernst, Alberto Giacometti.
Now, memories of her extraordinary life and a selection of items from her legendary wardrobe will be presented online at yoox.com, at the end of October 2008.
"When I first met Rosamond Bernier, I was captivated by her wit and allure. It is an enormous privilege to feature her distinctive style on yoox.com and bring her to the attention of a broader, younger and more international audience via the Internet" says Federico Marchetti, Founder of YOOX Group, who has personally pursued this project.
`When I started to lecture at the Metropolitan Museum many years ago" Rosamond Bernier says, "I thought of it as a performance. Instead of the routine little black dress, I would wear something more effective. Now that I don't intend to continue this activity, stars from my wardrobe became ‘sleeping beauties‘in my closet. Then Federico Marchetti came along like the Prince in the fairy tales, to touch them with his electronic wand and waft them off to the vast world of the internet."
Named to the International Best-Dressed List for her distinctive style, Rosamond Bernier is opening her wardrobe to collectors for the first time. yoox.com, the No.1 virtual boutique of multi-brand fashion & design in the world, will create a dedicated area featuring excerpts from her lectures, photographs from her personal collection, and a video interview, to establish the biographical context for a remarkable selection of vintage pieces available for sale.
Born in Philadelphia to an American father and an English mother, Rosamond Bernier was educated in France and England. She then lived for some years in Mexico, where she flew her own airplane and raised a small private zoo. At the end of World War II, she moved to Paris, initially to work for Vogue magazine. As the co-founder and editor of L'Oeil, the most prestigious art magazine of its time, she became a close friend of all the major artists working in Europe, earning their respect, their trust, and their affection.
For nearly 40 years now, Rosamond Bernier has made her home in New York, where, in addition to her career as a lecturer, she has collaborated with her husband John Russell, now the New York Times chief art critic emeritus, on award-winning television programs about the Louvre and the Pompidou Center. She made television profiles for CBS of Henry Moore, Philip Johnson, Paul Mellon, Joseph Hirshhorn, among others. She has been decorated for her contributions to culture, awarded the Legion of Honor and the Chevalier de L'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in France, and the Cross of the Order of Isabel la Catolica, bestowed by King Juan Carlos of Spain.
yoox.com believes in the timelessness of great fashion, which gains in value by being worn and playing a role in people's lives. As a woman of enormous style and accomplishment, Rosamond Bernier is a superb example of the ways in which fashion and memory interweave over the course of a lifetime. On yoox.com Rosamond Bernier will comment on each featured item from her wardrobe, sharing her recollections of how and when she acquired it and the noteworthy occasions on which she wore it.
For serious private collectors and museums, the most spectacular of these opportunities is Rosamond Bernier's haute couture water-print taffeta ball gown designed in 1959 by Yves Saint Laurent for Christian Dior, with its matching evening bag—an exquisite and rare example from the famed designer's brief reign at the house that gave him his entrée into the realm of Parisian high fashion. Other remarkable pieces Rosamond Bernier has chosen to de-accession from her extensive wardrobe and offer for sale on yoox.com include:
- A Zandra Rhodes dress, in shades of purple and jade on black, with a feather motif and hand-rolled edges, from the end of 1970's
- A Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel red wool bouclé suit, from the early 1980's
- A Kenneth Jay Lane festoon leaf necklace of impressed gilt metal and rhinestones, circa 1970
- A Bill Blass hunter green and navy blue striped jersey tunic with a plaid cotton pleated skirt, from the late 1960's
- An Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche black wool jersey suit, with a boxy, braid-trimmed jacket and wrap skirt, from the late 1960's/early 1970's
- An outstanding selection of accessories designed by Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel, including elegant evening bags and statement jewelry

For the 4° edition of "Who is on Next?"
yoox.com selects Gabriele Colangelo
On Sunday the 6th of July, after the announcement of the winners of the fourth edition of "Who is on Next," yoox.com gave the special award of the "best cutting-edge designer" to Gabriele Colangelo, who will have the possibility to create a capsule collection exclusively for yoox.com, which will be available to buy online from September during Milan Fashion Week.
Gabriele Colangelo appeared to be the more suitable designer for the window of yoox.com, thanks the vast experience gained over the past years and his expert knowledge of high level craftsmanship. His lyrical and geometrical style evokes the art of Burri, and the basic and typical forms of a Japanese painting. Colangelo, for some time, has been following a route, rich in-depth with connections to the world of art. He views fashion as an artistic amalgamation, which is very similar to the philosophy of yoox.com.
yoox.com, the N° 1 virtual boutique of multi-brand fashion & design in the world signed an agreement with the competition "Who is on Next?" which was instigated and is organized by Alta Roma and Vogue Italia in order to recognize and promote the new talent of the future.

The web is becoming more of a fundamental component for fashion, as a retail channel and as a form of communication. yoox.com is certainly the appropriate partner to raise the prestige of the competition, which represents a springboard for launching new generations of designers.
YOOX 8° Birthday
An Explosive Mix & Match of Music and Style!
YOOX celebrates its 8th birthday this month with a mix of music, fashion and art to celebrate 8 years of achievement and focus attention on new and ambitious goals for the future. YOOX, known for their pioneering spirit of innovation, continues on this path with creative new initiatives for customers and fans, further evolving their one-of-a-kind online shopping experience.
For their birthday, yoox.com has created a "virtual stage" that will intermittently showcase music, video performances, and interviews to create an unprecedented multimedia show: a complete eclectic and imaginative musical initiative that visitors will be able to follow on yoox.com / YOOXER for the latest news and to receive updates in real time. (http://www.yoox.com/edi/yooxer_87.asp)
Starting the first week of June, yoox.com will present a musical celebration starring eight artists, among them musicians and international DJs, joining together to create 8 musical tracks for this special occasion. The tracks will be exclusive to yoox.com and consist of three completely new songs and five remixes. The artist selection includes Chicks on Speed (CoS), Matteo Scaioli, Yapacc, Ellen Allien, Munk, John Acquaviva and Italoboyz. From yoox.com's actual birthday, June 20th, visitors to the site can listen to and download these songs, free of charge, for 72 hours (until June 22nd).
EXCLUSIVE DURAN DURAN REMIX available only on yoox.com!
The highlight of this series is a Matt Helder's (Arctic Monkeys) remix of Duran Duran's "Skin Divers" (taken from the band's critically acclaimed new album Red Carpet Massacre). This exciting new remix will be made available exclusively to YOOX customers in honor of the company's 8th anniversary.
Speaking from their rehearsal studios in London, where Duran Duran are preparing for their upcoming European run, bassist John Taylor said today "We are delighted to be working with YOOX as part of their 8th anniversary celebrations, as music and fashion have always been the two things closest to our hearts. We are also excited for people to hear this new Matt Helders' remix of ‘Skin Divers' – which is one of our favorite tracks on the new album. He's really clever and has added something very special to the song."
One of the artists, Matteo Scaioli remarkably combines the Indian and Japanese percussion with electric sounds and rhythmic dance. Scaioli's career started with the study of percussion, specifically the Tablas and Japanese drums (taiko). From this came his Percussion voyager project with Maurizio Rizzuto, who mixes tablas with synthesizers. Similarly, the music of Yapacc, founder of the first Techno movement, features the combination of many different instruments like guitar, bass, synthesizer, organ, along with special effects, then filtered electronically. Additionally, Munk, the group of Mathias Modica under the German label Gomma Records along with Maral Salmassi, that remixes a song with the voice of Asia Argento exclusively for yoox.com.
CHICKS ON SPEED Capsule Collection exclusively for yoox.com
Highlighting the increasing synergy between fashion, music and art, the "main event" of the birthday initiative, is the collaboration with artistic musical group Chicks on Speed (CoS). A collective of eclectic Berlin girls, Chicks on Speed is comprised of Melissa Logan, Kathi Glas, and Alex Murray-Leslie, three exuberant girls that are not only musicians, but art performers and fashion designers as well. Their new song "Vibrator" to be released in October on their new album "Cutting the Edge" will be pre-released worldwide on yoox.com for the birthday celebration. With inspiration from this song, Chicks on Speed also designed and produced their first fashion collection launching exclusively on yoox.com in mid-June.
Chicks on Speed's artistic success has been characterized by their ability to bring together different universes of modern creativity by mixing music, fashion and contemporary art. Their exclusive capsule collection is inspired by people, drawings, cities, magazines and books, clothes, fabrics: all references from significant meetings and the life of the Chicks. The collection is completely made by hand, further evidencing their penchant for artistic experimentation.
"We never want to be too close to fashion", Alex Murray-Leslie of Chicks on Speed says, "We cut the edge off fashion, take the yummy scraps and reconstruct them into something handmade, living and individual. We like to transform our collages on paper into Pop songs and then put the song into a shredder which gets stuck back together as textile yardages, which then gets morphed into Patchworks by Kathi on clothing. It's like creating a recipe, you need all the ingredients first, then its about cutting and pasting it back together in a new way. Our fetishistic iconic pop patches are inspired by the world of fashion and are affordable, wearable pieces of hand made art."
In line with this philosophy, and mix & matching different creative expressions to celebrate YOOX birthday, Absolut Vodka has also created a colorful YOOX DRINK for the birthday, "Absolut YOOX" will be characterized by a bottle with colored striped inspired by the iconic rainbow flag, a subtle message focusing on encouraging respect for diversity and freedom of expression for social, cultural, and creative differences.
LONG LIVE CHRISTIAN DIOR
yoox.com traces the history of the maison Christian Dior with a selection of Vintage clothing and accessories. The carefully chosen items represent the best of the graceful universe dreamed up by the founder. Long after his premature death, the House of Dior has maintained its distinctive position as an icon of luxury and refinement.
For this historical parade of the very best pieces of Christian Dior the fashion experts at yoox.com sourced the items from around the world: from Paris to Milan, from New York to Florence and again to Los Angeles through San Francisco and Gstaad. Pieces have been gathered from a variety of internationally acclaimed sources for vintage fashion and accessories, including Franco Jacassi (Milan) and Christie's (New York), together with various pieces from private collections.
The precious vintage sale will range from expensive museum-collectible items for very special moments to hard-to-find classic "finds" at accessible prices for those wanting something unique for their everyday life. Not only royalty will have the possibility to wear a Christian Dior treasure, but everyone who loves it.
Among the outstanding pieces available on yoox.com:
- An Haute Couture cocktail dress from the 1967 Spring Summer collection, which once belonged to Maria Felix, the legendary film star of the 1940s-1950s. The dress was purchased from Christie's of New York, which held a special auction dedicated to the sale of some of the famous actress's personal memorabilia.
- A precious necklace made from crystals, stones and pearls mounted on goldtone metal, dated 1963.
- A jacket in silk shantung bordered with an elaborate organza fringe, from the early 1960s.
- An important necklace owned by the famous fashion journalist Adriana Grassi, correspondent for some prestigious American publications, composed of amethyst stone-cut crystals and clear rhinestones from the 1960's.
On the 12th of February, 1947, in an atelier on Avenue Montaigne, the then-unknown Christian Dior presented his first collection to an enthusiastic public. Carmel Snow, the renowned editor in chief of Harper's Bazaar, enthusiastically declared, "That's a New Look!"
"My dream is to liberate women from nature", declared Dior, and women were eager to be liberated, to rediscover the romantic and frivolous femininity that the war had required them to set aside.
Dior virtually invented the system of licensing, signing his name to hats, glasses, stockings and other accessories, and transformed fashion shows into events that attracted royals and stars, from Princess Soraya and the Duchess of Windsor, to Marlene Dietrich and Lauren Bacall.
Maria Felix - famous for both her intense performances as well as her personal style - was a devoted customer of Dior's and paid regular visits to the atelier in Avenue Montaigne.
With her passion for Haute Couture, Felix made use of her frequent sojourns in Paris to replenish her stock of Dior cocktail dresses and evening gowns: the great designer was better than anyone else at creating sophisticated and audacious Haute Couture pieces that emphasized the foreign actress's aristocratic charm and exotic femininity.
With the founder's death in 1957, Yves Saint Laurent took command of the Dior empire before creating his own maison in 1960. At that time, Marc Bohan filled the position with elegance and moderation and would remain at Dior for the next 30 years. In 1989, the honor passed to Gianfranco Ferré, who, in his six years as artistic director of Dior, gave the house a contemporary appeal and glamour. The current heir to the Dior dynasty is John Galliano who, since 1996, has reinterpreted the brand's elegance with his own experimental and nonconformist spirit.
The Christian Dior Vintage project is the latest in a series of vintage initiatives that yoox.com has successfully launched. Last year, yoox.com held a vintage Chanel sale that sold out in record time.
yoox.com & Margherita Missoni for OrphanAid Africa
OrphanAid Africa and Margherita Missoni launch a limited edition bracelet designed by Ileana Makri, now available online exclusively on www.yoox.com
After the great success of the charity project with Antony, the English musician loved by Lou Reed, yoox.com is proud to announce its collaboration with OrphanAid Africa, a non-profit organization whose mission is to help orphans and vulnerable children in Ghana, West Africa.
This will be the first of a series of initiatives involving a collaboration between different creative universes, such as fashion and art, united by common goal of launching original projects that are both ethical and aesthetical. This vision fits perfectly with yoox.com, where different artistic expressions meet and merge together under a same common ethical sense.
OrphanAid Africa, a non-profit organization founded in 2002, is connected to Fashion from the very beginning: in fact its founder is Lisa Lovatt-Smith, a former editor at Vogue magazine. It only seems consequential that Margherita Maccapani Missoni decided to give her full support to the organization, not only by visiting Ghana, but also by encouraging the Fashion world and designers to participate in the project, thus reuniting style and creativity with a common search for beauty and meaning. Designers' creations dedicated to the cause will be sold online exclusively on yoox.com and the proceedings will benefit the organization.
Jewelry designer Ileana Makri, hip-hop producer Damon Dash, his fashion designer wife Rachel Roy and fashion stylist Rachel Zoe have already pledged their support; they are currently designing products whit profits going to OrphanAid Africa. Each designer will have a limited edition piece that will be available at some exclusive retailers like Jeffrey's New York, Colette, and 10 Corso Como, with an affordable version of the item released on a much broader scale.
From the beginning of May, on yoox.com, Ileana Makri, the Greek jewelry designer, will kick off the project with an African inspired bracelet. Her limited edition bracelet is made from moss-colored rope with a precious central oval in pink 18K gold and pavé diamonds. The design is inspired by a pattern she discovered in an African fabric, and the shape of the "O" itself is modeled after the O of the OrphanAid Africa logo. She also created a single diamond version of the bracelet at a moderate price. yoox.com will be the exclusive online retailer for these pieces.
Margherita Missoni said "I have chosen yoox.com as the exclusive internet retailing partner because I'm a great fan of online shopping. I really love the creativity and all the projects carried out by yoox.com. I'm sure this partnership will be a great success".
Thanks to yoox.com and all of the special supporters, OrphanAid Africa will continue to support the educational development of thousands children and to guarantee a different future for them.
A one-of-a-kind collection piece
Up for online charity auction on eBay.com in February
An initiative involving the collaboration between different creative universes, each united by the common goal of launching original projects that are both ethical and aesthetic.
These ideas provided the foundation for the encounter between yoox.com, and Antony, the English musician loved by Lou Reed and who, with just two albums, has been applauded by both the public and international critics—winning the prestigious Mercury Music Prize in 2005, for the album I'm a Bird Now.
The result of the collaboration is a dress designed by the musician and produced by yoox.com, which will be listed on eBay.com from the 14th of February. Following the designer's wish, the proceeds of the sale will be donated to the Sylvia Rivera Law Project (SRLP), the American grassroots organization that fights for the rights of all people to self-determine gender identity and expression, regardless of income or race, and without facing harassment, discrimination or violence
The dress, made from white silk jersey, has been made by hand and produced in a single model signed by Antony himself. Evoking a kimono, the sleeves are short, the hems are unfinished, and the front is adorned with an elegant abstract design. Following the lines of a tunic, the opening is at the rear and can be tied on both sides, which makes it suitable for all body shapes and silhouettes.
With its essential and refined lines, exalted by an immaculate whiteness, the piece expresses the same qualities found in its creator's poetic musicality: the use of few, but penetrating, notes and a voice of heavenly purity that goes right to the heart of every listener.
Antony sings about hope, pain, disillusionment, and love, modulating his voice with a ‘boudoir' intimacy and yet is capable of transforming his songs into a clear social and ethical message, underlining every human being's inviolable right to dignity.
ANTONY for yoox.com is the first in a series of future projects that yoox.com will develop with other musicians.
